With Maria Cangiano

On March 9-10th Tango Hembra, the  first Feminist  International  Tango Festival in Buenos Aires. The event gathered throughout two intense days around 50 women from the tango world: musicians, singers, communicators, dancers, researchers and administrators from the Tango cultural scene. The festival was launched and organized by women, movilized by their desire to built an equalitarian and inclusive space for women and dissident groups in a Tango world historically hegemonized by men. In this presentation the singer, composer, educator and historian, Dr. Maria Cangiano, a participant of Tango Hembra, will tell us about the Festival experience, as well as, the characteristics of the Tango Hembra movement, as part of the growing mobilization of women in Argentina supporting claims for the legalization of abortion, justice regarding cases of  harrasment and rape, and the broader struggle against the growing social and political repression executed by the current neoliberal government.
