SOPHIE MASSIEAU

France

A yoga practitioner for twelve years, Sophie started studying the discipline with Mika De Brito (Ashtanga) in Paris during her first three years. She also experimented Kundalini, and was initiated into Vinyasa, Hatha, and Tibetan Buddhist meditation during her multiple journeys in France, India and Latin America over the span of three years.

To get a better physical and anatomical understanding of postures, she studied Iyengar Yoga.  This approach nurtures her practice of Argentine tango, which she has been dancing for 8 years. In 2018, she graduated from the international School of Ashtanga Yoga Surya-World (https://www.surya-world.org/fr/) and founded Surya-Alps, where she teaches and organizes workshops. As a phytotherapy adviser and laboratory assistant, she also offers Phyto-Yoga workshops and produces ethical, nature-based products for dancers!

Through yoga, the corporal (balance, endurance, articular and muscular reinforcement and relaxation), energetical (control of breath and sensations) and mental (acuteness of perception and concentration) work is in favour of letting go, in dancing as well as in life.

For Sophie, the energy generated through yoga is akin to the one created while dancing. Developing trust, empathy and giving to other people is an orchestrated sensual science that yoga allows to sharpen, through the beautiful instruments that are the body and consciousness.
